THE AUSTRALIAN STORY
Malibu Boats Pty Ltd, has been building premium quality American designed ski boats in Australia since 1995.
Driven by the desire to produce something of much higher quality and performance than was available at the time, Xavier West, approached Malibu in the USA about his ambitious dream. A meeting with Malibu President Robert Alkema was arranged in California and shortly thereafter, an agreement was reached to build their boats in Australia.
West wanted to build the best boats in the country, and provide water ski enthusiast with new, state of the art, modern designs that were of a much higher quality than anything else available. This has proven to be a master stroke as Malibu leads the industry with the creation of new and innovative designs like our V25 Wake and Cut Diamond hulls, our Frameless Vented Windscreen and the patented Power Wedge which have helped make Malibu Boats the most popular and desirable family tow boats in Australia today.
Today, Malibu Boats Australia Pty Ltd employs up to 60 regional Australians and is a proud contributor to the Australian manufacturing industry.
Important Notice Regarding Imported Malibu Boats
Be careful to ensure your Limited Warranty is applicable in Australia. Malibu Boats boats manufactured outside of Australia and imported into Australia or New Zealand (aka ‘grey imports’) are not covered by the Limited Warranty provided by Malibu Boats, LLC (Malibu USA) or Malibu Boats Pty Ltd (Malibu Australia). Further, Malibu Australia does not provide a Limited Warranty for Malibu Boats boats sold or distributed by anyone other than Malibu Australia. You can make sure your boat is a genuine Malibu Australia boat by checking the easy to find Hull Identification Number (HIN) embossed into the starboard side of the transom or contacting an authorised Malibu Australia Dealer. Malibu Australia boats are built to a standard specific for Australian conditions, using materials to suit the Australian environment. Boats sold or imported by Malibu Australia will be covered by the Malibu Australia Limited Warranty provided you comply with the required registration or transfer requirements (please refer to the relevant Limited Warranty documentation provided with your boat, or contact a dealer for more information). Nothing in this statement restricts the rights you may have as a consumer under the Australian Consumer Law in the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) including under the consumer guarantees.

SURF GATE™ - wave making magic
Imagine total wake control at your fingertips. It’s the original wakesurf system, and there’s no doubt it’s the best. With an almost 100 percent adoption rate on Malibu & Axis Boats, we sell over 3,000 Surf Gate systems every year.
What is Surf Gate?
Surf Gate is a hydraulic ‘gate’ mounted on the rear transom of a Malibu Boat, sized for each specific model. When activated, Surf Gate moves into the water flow, extending the running surface of the hull and changing the point of convergence. See the animation below.
How Surf Gate Works
Activating Surf Gate shifts the convergence point of the water behind the boat, creating a very surfable wave on one side of the boat. The Power Wedge III system is used to fine tune the wave shape to suit the preference of the surfer. This can also be adjusted by the surfer via Surf Band a wrist remote. With Surf Gate you can make a wave on one side of the boat or the other by simply pushing a button.
How to Use Surf Gate
When the crew are ready to wake surf, Surf Gate is activated using either the Malibu Command Center™ or Surf Band™ wrist remote. Surf Gate produces a surf-able wave within seconds. There are then two primary ways to adjust the wave to your liking. Firstly, the length of the wave can be adjusted using boat speed - a faster speed will result in a longer wave, a slower speed will result in a shorter wave (typical wake surfing speed is 10.5mph / 16.9kph). A second adjustment can be made to the shape of the surf wave. The shape of the wave is adjusted by changing the Power Wedge III position from lift, ramp or vert style waves - the choice is yours.
How to Use Surf gate with Surf Band
With most boats, wake and wave settings are adjusted from inside the boat or by talking to the driver while you’re riding. With a Malibu Boat, you have the option of setting up your wake or wave from inside the boat or while you’re riding, using our exclusive Surf Band. Surf Band remotely adjusts Power Wedge III settings, as well as speed, Surf Gate™ side and even music volume - all from your wrist. Setting up the perfect wake or wave is a breeze when you’re making the changes while you ride.
Of course, you can always let the presets do the work and hit “surf left” or “surf right” and any other settings you prefer.
Power Wedge III™ - the inside story
Ever heard of free weight? Power wedge III technology simulates up to 679kg of ballast, but how’s this ... it also has a lift mode. Lift mode simulates having less weight in your boat, which means your boat gets on plane quicker, you burn less fuel and visibility is increased. Suitable for every rider, Power wedge III technology helps create the perfect wake/wave - all at your fingertips.
What is Power Wedge III?
Malibu’s exclusive Power Wedge™ III hydrofoil is one of the keys to creating world-class wakes and waves behind your Malibu boat. Power Wedge III provides unmatched versatility allowing riders across the spectrum (from first-timers to seasoned pros) to dial in a wake or wave that’s perfectly sized and shaped - all from the same Malibu boat.
Power Wedge III looks like a hydrofoil at first glance, but Malibu Boat owners know will tell you emphatically that it is a must have feature for customising wakes and waves. A traditional hydrofoil is designed to work in only one position and is typically fixed, whereas Power Wedge III can be set to multiple positions, allowing you to tune the amount of down- or up- force depending on the type of wake or wave shape you are looking for.
How Power Wedge III Works
First it helps to understand how Power Wedge III works. Power Wedge III creates up to 1,500 pounds (680kg) of simulated ballast instantly by foiling a wedge (wing) at the rear of the boat. The Power Wedge can be adjusted to achieve varying levels of downforce/simulated ballast.
How to Use Power Wedge III
When it’s time to displace some water to create a pro-level wake or wave, Power Wedge III instantly creates up to 1,500 pounds of simulated ballast. As Power Wedge III is deployed from the Malibu Command Center™ or Surf Band™ wrist remote, the back of the boat drops deeper into the water, immediately beefing up your wake or wave. As Power Wedge III is adjusted into the various ramp positions, your wake or wave face will get longer and more mellow without losing size. It’s best to start with the middle setting and adjust up or down until you find exactly the ramp you’re after. Power Wedge III’s progress can be monitored from an easy-to-read digital display at the Malibu Command Center or the rider can use Malibu’s exclusive Surf Band for next-level control while they’re riding.
One of Power Wedge III’s lesser-known (but highly valuable) positions is Lift Mode. The system automatically goes into Lift Mode to get the boat on plane more quickly and when speed is set above surf speed, to run more efficiently. The Lift Mode setting can also be selected from the Malibu Command Center when speeds are below 26 miles per hour to make the wake smaller and more approachable for beginners or junior riders. In this case, it’s best to drain some of the ballast as well. The beauty is that your wake or wave will always have that perfect Malibu shape regardless of whether you choose to make it big or small.
How to Use Power Wedge III with Surf Band
With most boats, wake and wave settings are adjusted from inside the boat or by talking to the driver while you’re riding. With a Malibu Boat, you have the option of setting up your wake or wave from inside the boat or while you’re riding, using our exclusive Surf Band. Surf Band remotely adjusts Power Wedge III settings, as well as speed, Surf Gate™ side and even music volume - all from your wrist. Setting up the perfect wake or wave is a breeze when you’re making the changes while you ride.
Of course, you can always plug in your preferences to the Command Centre and let the presets do all the work.
